The initials D and W lead the name DWOOG by knocking out the B and L from BLOG. The O is for good measure. A DWOOG covers the Cavs/NBA, and on days they don't play, it has hype haikus, inventions, some rants, and DWOOG approved bets.NothingWoodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06559663050783396382noreply@blogger.comBlogger52125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2173713916354938010.post-71337883999419628632013-04-20T10:15:00.001-05:002013-04-20T10:15:03.567-05:00Some Sentences, One Outcome (Unless I hedge), I lose or I Win.

I want to know something about the Cavs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Does anyone keep track of their mode on
points per quarter and their average deviation from that?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It seems like a fairly simple stat, but
I think it would give a lot of information about them/teams.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Are the teams consistent in their
specific quarter by quarter play throughout games the most successful
teams?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Is it actually the quarter
to quarter relation in scoring within a game that’s what makes a team
successful?</div>

<span style="font-family: Times;">I want to know if we were to
consistently have great first quarters followed by a slumping second quarter
and average third and fourth quarters if we have a better chance to win than
when we have fluky out of proportion scoring quarters like during the Lakers's
game.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Is mode an effective
analytic tool?</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Times;">When looking at the Cav’s
wins, which is a very small sample, mode doesn’t appear to be an effective
evaluator for us.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Our mode for
quarters in general is 31, which happened only three times.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’d love it if we could just always get
31 points in a quarter every game, but that is not going to happen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>

I’m happy the Sandy Hook Tradegy is being
sensationalized.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’m not happy for
some odd reason such as wanting the shooter to be glorified or wanting these
innocent victims to become images of sad heroes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’m not concerned with either of those things.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I’m happy that this incident is being sensationalized
because it says that America is in a great spot culturally and politically.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When I heard about this incident, I
(probably unfairly) thought about how many countries deal with these type of
mass murders events monthly, maybe even weekly.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>However, they just play it like regular news.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s a common occurrence for them and
the reasons are obvious such as political, racial, or religious.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’m thinking about countries such as, Israel,
Egypt, Pakistan, any country with habitual conflict.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
These countries offer up clear reasons because these events
are systematic for them.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In
America, this is simply not the case.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>We don’t have common occurrences of politically, religiously, or even
mentally motivated killings.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s
out of the norm here, so when it happens it takes us by shock.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It eclipses everything because we can’t
imagine how or why in any manner someone would go to a place and kill random
people.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
I know over the next few weeks the media, crimnalisgosts,
investigators, etc.. will be pushing theories about the shooter's motive.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Good.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Right now, people are saying things that blame gun control,
mental institutions, and eventually his family’s lack of
awareness.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s probably some of those
things.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I wouldn’t doubt that.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
However, at the end of the day, it was one man acting alone
to commit a terrible crime.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We
should never forgot that it was an individual that committed this
atrocity.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He had individual motives.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This monster wasn’t created, so much as
he was born and maybe ignored.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
While some people reading this will inevitably say that mental
health experts missed this man.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He
fell through the cracks.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is an
example of the failure of America’s mental system.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
He isn’t.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If we
weren’t sensationalizing him, he would have been a failure of the mental health
system.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This system does its best
to offer individual treatment while at the same time battling the tendency to
try and group every into something: ADD, ADHD, bipolar, depression etc.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That’s the worst possible thing for the
mental health discipline.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This
tradegy is terrible, but let’s take something from it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Let’s remember that in America (the
whole world even) we are all individuals and some individuals are just
fucked up.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Trying to group this
killer with anyone else is ridiculous.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>He is simply his name.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He
is not a patient with a disorder. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
That’s the hardest realization for me; it’d be a lot easier
if I thought that we could stop the next person to perpetrate a tragedy like
this.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We can’t because no set pattern
creates this.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It reminds me how a
particle randomly appears in a total vacuum on occasion.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It shouldn’t happen, but it does. </div>

<span style="font-family: Times;">Second Quarter:</span></div>

by just capitalizing off of our bad shooting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The last 4:54 of the quarter was all about the Cavs; we made
seven straight shots, including 3 threes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

finish.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>During this stretch, the
Cavs were really playing fast ball and exploiting the Buck's defense before it could

six, but gave up a three right before half.</span></div>

they committed bad fouls to help the Bucks go up by 11.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Bucks did the same thing because
they were copying us, but we are better at giving up leads so we only moved up
six points to not even tie with the Bucks.</span></div>

defense.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is where having a

</span>These droughts just kill any hopes we have of coming back.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Bucks didn’t score for three
minutes this period just because of misses, but we couldn’t capitzlize too much
because we turned the ball over a lot.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>At the end of the game, we turned the ball over on two charges and a bad
pass while allowing too many offensive rebounds.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Monta Ellis got a two to put the Bucks up by six off of a
second possession with 2:41 left.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>With 28 seconds left, we let them get another offensive rebound that
forced us to foul and put them back up to six off of one free throw made.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That was the dagger to the two
poesssion<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>game.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Times;">The issue this game was
the turnovers.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We had the most
terrible passes I’ve seen from us all year.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It seemed like our bigs were making terrible choices when
passing the ball back out, and our guards were often forcing passes through too
many people down low.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The
game was lost by only four points, but we had 27 turnovers and they only scored
23 points from them. That’s very lucky.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

rebounding.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It seemed like they
got some crucial second possessions at the end of the game that made a
difference.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Maybe, Varejao is a
little bit tired because it seemed like he was missing some rotations this game
and not getting back when helping others as quickly as usual on defense.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

times when he gets the ball.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The
man loves to shoot, but I can’t complain because was scoring.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He’s looking like a solid bench sixth
man for when Dion Waiters returns.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Or, maybe as I would like to see Dion Waiters will come of the bench in
a James Harden style role and Miles will keep starting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">The Cavs should not be
playing a slowed down game.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If we
play faster, it seems like the guys who can’t really score don’t have as hard
of a time with scoring.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Even when
we run pick and rolls, they seem more effective if we do it while the offense
is still setting up and just seeing what happens with the wing guys if we have
to pass out.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Cavs looked their
best during the scoring runs because they ran the floor and took all the
advantages they could with mismatches.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">The Fuck Truck driver of the
game is Kyrie.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He gets it because
he definitely sparked the run we had at the end of the second half when Tyler
Zeller entered the game.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Kyrie
found Zeller and then continued to power up the team.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>helped that Kyrie hit a three and then followed it up with a two, since it gave a general confidence to the team during this
run.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It helps the team want to play harder knowing that
they have a chance to win, since one of their players can score at will.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>

knocked out at least?</span></div>

remember who Paquiao fought in his last match or the match in general without
being refreshed by the announcers previous to this fight. He lost by decision. It's a decision I forgot.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’m going to remember that he lost from
a knockout punch last Saturday.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> That</span> is clear.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Times;">This lose to the Pacers was
not only expected but well earned.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>The team did everything to live up to their reputation tonight.</span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">The first quarter was a
great quarter for the Cavs.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>CJ
Miles started out hot.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He sank two
threes in a row and actually had 16 of our 18 points at the 4:30 mark in the
first.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Anderson Varejao wasn’t
scoring his garbage buckets how he normally does, but he had a few assists to
compliment Kyrie Irving’s.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We led
in this quarter because we played defense and had no turnovers.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We made the most of any turnovers we
pulled in.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The one troubling
aspect was the quick transition fast breaks off of defnsive rebounds; Lance
Stephenson got back before Kyrie three times for easy layups that were
impossible to stop.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Kyrie needs to
learn to run back to the three line rifght after his shot is up towards the hoop.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Times;">The second quarter the Cavs

became apparent that CJ Miles is a black hole now, since he scored 28 points
against the Lakers.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Any time he
touched the ball he shot it. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It
wasn’t all bad though because he was making his threes and takes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We managed to keep the Pacers from
scoring for a three minute period, which helped us to boost are lead to 54-38.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The defense was perfect during this
time.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Pacer’s had one possession
where the Cavs were able to get two blocks and an offensive shove call.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Cavs gave some of the lead away the
last three minutes of the half by doing their typical foul a ton then turn the
ball over so the other team can not look as bad routine. </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Times;">The third quarter was continuing

The Cavs pulled out a win against the Lakers with Kyrie
Irving returning.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Actually, they
flat out won the game.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’m going
to just point out some things I noticed during the game.
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-The Cavs made their second possessions and forced turnovers
count.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We turned all of our
chances into points.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Lakers
were not so lucky.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
-Tristan Thompson and Tyler Zeller played good defense
against Dwight Howard.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I want to
see them play the same style against all centers: hands up when the guy gets
the ball and just holding their space.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Tyler Zeller was also very active in help defense.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He stepped in several times to get a
block or alter a shot.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
-Anderson Varejao and Zeller shot the twenty footer
perfectly.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They made Howard come
out just enough that he couldn’t protect the paint.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
-Alonzo Gee played strong defense on Kobe Byrant and made
Kobe take some tough shots.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
-The backcourt helped out when our guys had Howard slowed
down low by coming in and snaking the ball away.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><br />
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-CJ Miles can play some basketball; he made two shots in a
row right at the start of the game and just kept making his shots.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He even drove the ball in a few times
to get some easy buckets.<br />
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-Kyrie Irving cared about defense.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When his man blew by him, he chased him down instead of just
watching him go by.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Now that’s
skill and progression from this young man who seemed to want to video tape his
guy when he drove by him in early November.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
-The pick and roll/pick and pop game works great for Irving
and Zeller.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Zeller’s ability to
really shoot the ball opens up the floor and creates great spacing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
-We avoided our crazy long scoring routs this game in a
way.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Usually, the Cavs foul a ton
and give up lots of easy points while scoring once in a while.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Well, this third quarter was
different.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We were blowing it by
fouling and giving up easy shots as usual, but we made them turnover the ball
or we sank a three right when things were getting out of hand.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It was like that game where you drip
your spit over someone and pull it back up right before it falls.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There's some splatter and there are harsh
feelings during the process but no one gets hurt.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
-The entire game the Cavs team pushed up the tempo on the
Lakers and got tons of transition points.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
-The fourth quarter was a pretty even battle.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It seemed like whenever we needed a
basket CJ Miles or Kyrie would be able to get it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Lakers were trying to shoot themselves back to a
lead with threes instead of gradually wearing the Cavs down under the rim.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They shot 7-27 from the three
line.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It was a bad idea in
hindsight.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The Fuck Truck award goes to CJ Miles.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He shot 5-10 from the three line, 10-18, and
started the game off with two devastating threes that had to have killed off some
morale on that Lakers team.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He
was also driving the ball and getting what he wanted when he wanted it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Every time he touched the ball, it got
set on fire and started evaportating the Lakers.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Until, the end of the game when he made two free
throws.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The last one just absorbed
the water and left an ashy dirt pile behind that was crazy moist but couldn’t
keep the whole lake filled.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>At
least you're moist Kobe?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>

<span style="font-family: Times;"> </span><span style="font-family: Times;">Kirk Goldsberry’s article in
Grantland about the Kobe Assist this week (<a href="http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/8719297/how-kobe-bryant-missed-shots-translate-new-nba-statistic-kobe-assist">http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/8719297/how-kobe-bryant-missed-shots-translate-new-nba-statistic-kobe-assist</a>)
is a must read.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In short, the Kobe
assist happens when a player takes a shot which is missed but is then
shortly put away for points.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span>

<span style="font-family: Times;"> </span></div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Goldsberry mentions that
Dion Waiters actually is one of the top leaders for Kobe assists.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It isn’t mentioned with an attitude
about it; however, I think for certain forms of teams such as the Cavs this
stat is very misleading.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>While
Dion Waiters is getting our team points off of second possessions his shots are
causing, they take an effectiveness away from the defense in a few ways.</span>
</div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">This article mentions that
there is a trade off for getting Kobe assists, since players have to crash the
boards.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>For example, the Celtics
have a lower rate of Kobe assists because they value transition defense.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Lakers are one of the leaders of
this form of assist and have been horrendous on defense this year.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Why does defense suffer so
much though on the Cavs?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Also, why
does this affect a team like the Cavs more then the Lakers?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>No one would argue that the Cavs have a
more effective second possession game then the Lakers.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’m sure the stats point to this too as
the Cavs repeadately blow possessions with one plus offensive rebounds.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Our Kobe assists don’t outweigh the
negative defense usually, while we have seen stretches of Laker play where they
somehow combined this assist style with stellar defense.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">I have a few ideas
why the Kobe assist is not a well functioning part of the Cavs or a stat to look
positively on for them:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">None of the Cavs that are
shooting demand a true double team like Kobe does.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Being double teamed leads to an easier time for the
offensive boards and points.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Dwight Howard is often able to grab the rebound and go back up uncontested.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Anderson Varejao and Tristan Thompson
have to work very hard when they get a rebound to go back up; the other
team’s defenderers are true to their man.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Furthermore, every time the
Cavs get a start towards a second possession the entire offense resets, so you have Kyrie and
friends staying completely down on the offensive end without total ball control.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Wathcing the Lakers, Kobe usually runs back a little not
looking to reset because he trusts his bigs to finish right away.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This prevents the fastbreak if the
offense doesn’t convert.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They have
a balance of commitment and logic to the second chance point.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">The Cavs don’t have
this luxury.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>On a more practical
note, our bigs are working double effort to play a style conducive to these
assists, since they have no advantage crashing down low.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This has to grind on them throughout
the game.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There’s a reason
everyone keeps saying that Varejao’s man defense is slipping.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Could this be why?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is his leading year for offensive
boards.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">It also helps playing for
these assists when you have a midrange man because that will allow a team to
not have to totally reset their offense like the Cavs do.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Think Pau Gasol.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>After a
miss, Howard can easily toss out to him for a high percentage shot.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Who do the Cavs have to do this?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Varejao gets hot sometimes, but he is
usually rebounding.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Maybe, Tyler
Zeller will develop into the man for this because he has shown a knack for
shooting the 20 footer.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">This style also hinders the
Cavs’s defenese because it is not great for team attitude.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When our players see Dion taking
ridiculous shots, they have to feel let down a little bit.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They may be open, they may have seen an
open man.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Regardless, it kills
morale.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Lakers are definitely
an example of this as we see many pouty faces due to touches.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>However, on the Cavs,<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>this defiantly leads to lazy defense because no one thinks
they’ll be rewarded with a touch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>If Dion was Kobe, it’d be easier for the team to live with because
they’d have a better confidence that his shot has a better chance than theirs
to go in.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Waiters is shooting
.343. No way a player wants to defer to that.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Where do we go from here
then?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s hard to say because we
are a young hustle based team that should be crashing the boards.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It causes defense problems for us, but I
imagine it does keep us in the games.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I think the issue for us is moderation.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We need to try to not commit so much on
the second possession, so when it does blow up we can get back on defense.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is as simple as having our guards
not reset totally on a second possession unless it means they stay above the
three line until it’s certain we have the ball.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It also means our guards need to stay more aware of defensive players
playing for the fast break by coming off of their man during a rebound or shot
attempt.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">I think as a whole moderation
should be stressed for our Cavs team.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Even on defense, we over commit or under commit.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We have no medium zone.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span> On offense, players just play like
they are the only one on the court after they score.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>How many Cavs players will take a wild shot just after
scoring?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I wish there was a stat
for three made to missed contested shot.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>That could shed light on the topic of moderation.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">We’re young, dumb, full of
bad shots, missed rotations, and missed transitions.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>What else is there to say?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I’m young, dumb, full of beer, and semi-off point.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>However, screw it, let’s just hate on
the Cavs for these Kobe assists because they have no excuse for shit defense
aside from age and discipline.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I
have the excuse of beer and age/discpline if anyone says I missed a fact in
this article or missed anything else. A job is a job is a job, and if you have
three excuses for messing it up that’s perfectly legit (Why would I excuse myself otherwise).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Two excuses is not or else the Cavs
wouldn’t drive me crazy to watch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>That’s empirical because I pull my hair every game I watch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>

phrases, his passions, his power ring on his pinky, make him translate the bi polar
action of the Cavs game to all fans.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

</span>the “ah motherrrr fuck…. (yea)” of everybody.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He knows the misery of Tristan Thompson gathering super slow

Timberwolves.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I know he was going

the inside by drawing Detroit’s bigs out.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

<span style="font-family: Times;">The Fuck Truck Driver award
goes to CJ Miles for his second quarter performance. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is his turnaround I hope. That’s why he gets it.
He drove the ball really hard to get some guaranteed points.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I like seeing him try to get fouled, and
it was awesome to see him get an offensive board and dunk.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>That showed he was hustling.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If CJ Miles can continue to score like
he did tonight by driving the ball and taking less jump shots, he is going to
be a great addition to the bench.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>By driving the ball, he can become more consistent in scoring.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The easy baskets might even help him
get his shooting back on track.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Who knows?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If he and Pargo
can continue to score how they did tonight when the team is healthy, we are
going to be a serious threat to teams.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">

Nosed Drunk,” and “Santa Claus Is Cumming On Your Mom.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The human mind is amazing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It has allowed me to really get into
all that Tyler Zeller is about. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Let’s look at this man and his friends:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Tonight Tyler Zeller didn’t
get into the game for the first five minutes, but during the first quarter he
saw quite a few things.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Scoring
was not one of these things, as the Cavs didn’t get a point until Daniel Gibson
slid by defenders for a lay up four minutes in.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We
kept allowing ourselves to get into the corner where a second defender came in
and would force bad passes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It
seemed like every pass the Cavs made during the first quarter was met with a
hesitant catch.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The players might
have had an open shot, but they didn’t take it fast enough to make it
worthwhile.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We would then pass the
ball and be forced to take a contested shot or have a shot clock violation.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Tyler Zeller entered the
game around the 8 minute mark and immediately did some nice things.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>At 7:18, he grabbed a bad pass then pushed
the ball up court while continuing to come down and get fouled off the
ball.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>At 3:34, he blocks Kevin
Love and then runs all the way back down court to get the ball.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He fails to finish but he hustled at least.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>At 2:28, Zeller does
his trademark show the ball and drive it in to finish close to the basket.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He gets an and 1.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I also thought Zeller
played good defense in the sense that he knows where to position himself when
his man doesn’t have the ball.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He
can help others without being beat by his guy, unless it is a really challenging/lucky shot being thrown down by Kevin Love.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">We were outscored a ton the
first quarter, but it wasn’t a matter of our defense being that bad or theirs
being that good.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Although, Andrei
Kirilenko and<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span><span style="font-family: Times;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">Nikola Pekovic are good rim protectors. </span>The big issue
was second possession finishes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We
didn’t have any.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They had many due
to Kevin Love and Andrei Kirilenko being relentless on the boards.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It also doesn’t help that Kevin Love is
a crafty man.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He knows whoever is
covering him will play very tight.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>He uses to his advantage by running his defender into his own teammates; defenders don't watch the whole floor when they cover him.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">The second quarter didn’t
see any Zeller.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Very sad.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I thought both second units played
really even.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It was relatively boring
except this time our shots were going in while their shots weren’t.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>As always this didn’t last the whole
quarter because at the end we just started to blow it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We lost track of Kevin Love so he
nailed a three.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Then
Luke </span>Ridnour got two quick layups at the end.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The third quarter we blew opportunities to begin with.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We couldn’t finish on a three shot
attempt possession, and Tristan Thompson fouled a three line non-jumping Kevin
Love.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>However, Alonzo Gee didn’t
notice any of this as he threw down not one dunk.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Not two dunks.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> Not</span> three dunks.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> But four dunks. </span>Gee just
kept faking at the corner to drive in for a dunk or would crossover one man and
be up for the dunk before help came.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>We were only outscored by 2 this quarter, and a large part of that was
because we lost AK a lot (We could have been up).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I think it’s
hard for defenders to actually play up on him because he doesn’t try to really
score, but the issue is that he can score when open.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He doesn’t hesitate to drive not so much as he rather look to
pass.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> A</span> lot of defenders start to leave him thinking he will just
pass.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>AK got six uncontested
points this quarter due to this thinking.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The fourth quarter was just as sad. Zeller was involved
and not in just fouling a three-point shooter like in the third,
thankfully.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Zeller had a nice
offensive board on the third possession, which he dished to Donald Sloan for an
easy layup.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He also got a layup
off of another offensive rebound the following possession.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>He left the game shortly after this, but he showed a great hustle on
those points.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The rest of the game
was bad.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Timberwolves kept
causing turnovers for us and preventing us from turning any we got into
points.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We couldn’t make our
shots, so trading possessions was a losing affair for us as the Timberwolves
kept scoring during the fourth to win by 18 .<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
It was a frustrating game.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Cavs biggest issue comes from not being able to score
multiple two-three minute stretches at a time.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We need to become more efficient at turning fastbreaks,
steals, and second chance possessions into actual points.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We’re leaving so much out of the hoop.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span> </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Until then, my Christmas song bastard
on the team is going to have to be Tyler Zeller.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He played very good ball last night by hustling for the
offensive boards and knowing where to stand on the defensive end to make a little bit
of a difference to driving peoples’ shots. Tyler Zeller is going to be made into Z in my head by the time Kyrie is back just how "Rudolph The Red Nose Drunk" exists as a real thing for me right now.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Here are some general takes from all of the quarters:</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-On defense, Daniel Gibson is great at going into the paint and
frustrating big men by yanking or denying the ball away.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He did this four times last night. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
- Love had three fouls committed on him from around the three line. Lots of birds were got as Austin Carr would say. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-This is the most dunks the Cavs have had all year.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-Omri Casspi sucks.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>He couldn’t hit his open shots tonight.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-Gee is a great player when he is driving and can hit a
corner three point shot.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-Where was the offensive pick and rolls for Varejao?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Kevin Love is not a premier
defender.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Bang into him.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-We had the world’s lowest combined vertical jump jump ball
between Wild Thing and Nikola Pekovic.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-Timberwolves have very good shot blockers.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Kirilenko is so long he can run into the
paint when someone is driving to contest and if they kick out he still has a chance to run out and alter the shot too.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-The Cavs are getting better with their risk taking.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When we trap on offense, we are
overloading one side now, so there is more of a chance to get a steal off of the
pass.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> We</span> now do not have two
semi open men when we trap. We have just one totally open man. That's only a one in five chance for something to go wrong for us. I like the odds.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
-Our ineffectiveness scoring is shown when you see the Timberwolves
had 32 points off of 20 turnovers while we only had 22 off of 21 turnovers.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The Fuck Truck driver of the night is Alonzo Gee.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Alonzo Gee gets it for blowing out his
man shocks on some thundering dunks.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>He also gets it for being the first Cav on dunk of the night.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Keep on truckin, Gee. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Drive the ball and then hit some
threes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We know you play D.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="font-family: Times;"></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;">I
hope Kyrie Irving or Dion Waiters is back very soon because the Cavs are
becoming unbearable to watch. Yes, Anderson Varejao is beasting it every
game. However, he doesn’t play an entertaining game. He plays a
very efficient position based game. Rarely, does Varejao have to move
into a different position to score. On rebounds. he finesses his way to
his spot to get a put back or grab the board. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: .1pt;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: .1pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;">With
all that being said, Vareajo is the Fuck Truck Driver of the night. Once
again, he scored 18 points along with 17 rebounds. He looked a
little bit behind the whole game though. The whole Cavs team seemed a little bit
tire. They were pushed around. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: .1pt;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: .1pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;">It
seemed like the whole team played extra small. Detroit was able to block
us with ease the whole night.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: .1pt;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: .1pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;">Why did Detroit win? I
feel like the first Cavs possession of the whole game showed how the night was
going to shake out. The Cavs held the ball for fifty seconds, getting
three offensive boards, and did not score. There were many second
possessions for both of the teams during this game; however, Detroit scored on
them by kicking out or finishing while the Cavs did not do that. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;">It also
helped that Detroit blocked a ton of our inside shots. No one seemed to
attempt to go up for a fake tonight. The closer to the hoop our team got
the more they exhibited Tristan Thompson’s offensive abilities. </span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: .1pt;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: .1pt;">
<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;">Tyler
Zeller played serviceable minutes getting eight points and some rebounds.
He was pretty active trying to block even if it wasn’t always successful.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: .1pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman"; font-size: 12.0pt; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;">Bottom
line, the Cavs were out Cav’ed tonight. Our hustle on offense was slow
and led to lots of easy baskets from being out of position.</span></div>

because the Cavs can’t score sometimes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>However, Pargo has trouble with his rotating when double teams on
defense happen.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is what
allowed Goran’s two open threes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Omri Casspi came deciscely
to help on the ball handler near the paint.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Waiters goes over to grab Casspi’s open man while Pargo gets the man
Waiters left at the top of the three line, rather than staying on Dragic, who is all the way on the other
side of the court now in the farther corner.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Casspi has
no chance of running all the way to the open Dragic; however, he could have
made it to the man Pargo is on and Pargo could have been on Dragic.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Pargo needs to learn the abilities of
people on the court and where they can get to when coming off of a double team.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He messed up two times in
a row in crucial defense situations.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">I would also like to give
props to Omri who is still like me at times when he panics, dribbles too high,
loses control, and falls.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>However,
I’m not giving him props on being like me today.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He gets props for being very decisive and moving to double a
person right away, rather than floating near the ball handler while leaving his original assignment open. Floating like that does nothing to help in the man to man
defense.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Dion Waiters is guilty of
this a lot, but he is working through this issue and gets a break since he only
played zone defense during college.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Reacting:<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Tristan Thompson sucks at
reacting.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>His offensive moves are
so slow that even if he takes a shot the defender can be four feet away and
still get there in time to throw him out of rhythm.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He missed four, almost totally open shots, in the first
quarter.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He needs to start doing
his moves quicker, so less athletic defenders don’t dominate him.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There is no reason he should not be
taking Marcin Gortat off the dribble every time.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Reading:<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Dion Waiters is improving, since he has
figured out to drive the ball a lot more.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>He still took a ton of shots, but they were slightly better shots. Defenders
didn’t cheat guard him by playing up in his face knowing he only shoots the
ball. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Dion’s reading was shown
this game through him acting as a total facilitator during the third
quarter.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He read the book of
Varejao, and he kept turning the pages every time he drove in a little bit then
fed the ball to Wild Thang at fifteen feet to turn another page.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Alonzo Gee also did some
great reading too.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He played tight
defense and made sure to drive the ball rather than jacking up shots every time
he touched the ball.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Ridiculousness:<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I love Austin Carr.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>His favorite phrase and new phrase was
about Goran Dragic’s left hand.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He
kept reminding the Cavs that the left handed men like to go to the left side.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>“You see, the Cavs aren’t realizing
Goran likes to go the left side.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>That’s why he keeps scoring.”<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>This was repeated numerous times along with noticing all the birds that the Cavs
got; the referee should check for bird crap on the floor because tons of birds were in the arena.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They should also make the sure area
under the hoop is in playing condition;<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Austin Carr noticed Gee and Varejao throwing the hammer down on dunks several times.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>CJ Miles even pinged the rim and floor
a little too. Thank you being for you, Mr. Carr.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">We lost to the Grizzlies, go figure.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">It’s getting pretty
frustrating that we are up by 7+ points at different points in games, even
the third quarter, and we still manage a lose.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I thought the Cavs played amazing defense in the first and
even most of the second against this Memphis Grizzlies team.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Hell,
even the third quarter our defense was decent.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Cavs run into major issues when they start to turn over
the ball for lots of easy baskets;<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>that’s what allows our opponents back into the game.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">We also have issues when none
of our wing players are able to drive or refuse to drive when our jump shots
failing.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There were multiple
stretches in the second quarter where we had multiple trips on offense with
missed shots and missed second possessions.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We have very inopportune scoring droughts at the ends of
games and quarters.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Speaking of
droughts, the whole fourth quarter was one for us.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We had only nine points and didn’t score the first three
minutes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It was a gritty fourth
quarter ,however, with tough defense and lots of back and forth defensive battles:
one turnover or bad shot going into another turnover or bad shot.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">The Cavs give games away,
and every body we plays knows this.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>It gives a mentality that no matter what opposition teams should just
play hard because we generally figure out a way not to pull the win.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Our power ranking of 19 reflects this;
ten teams below us have more wins.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>We actually have a negative turnover differential, we’re a top ten team
in rebounding, and we’re<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>number 12
in three point percentage.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We are a middle
of the road team.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">I’ll go over some things I
noticed this game, most of which are surprisingly pleasant.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">-Anderson Varejao is a
beast.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He also distributes his
beastdom to other players with nice little passes in the paint for easy
baskets.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>At first, he was trying to
just outdo Marc Gasol because his first assist came after Gasol got one under the
rim.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Then Wild Thang was
just doing it to do it.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">- Everyone on the team has
been fighting for extra possessions on offense.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Even when we don’t get them and only tip the ball or knock
it away for a second, we are making the other team lose their ability to run
the fast break.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This has been
helping us a lot to get set on defense. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">-Tristan Thompson played
great defense.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is stopping his
habit of leaving his feet for every block.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He’s started to just put a body with hands up into the
offensive player.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Zach Randolph
scored a lot, but they were contested shots.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">-Our help defense today on
the bigs was very precise. When someone left their man to help down low, they
committed and really hacked the ball away.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We grabbed a decent amount of steals and forced eight turnovers from just Gasol and Randolph.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">- Dion Waiters drove the
ball against these Grizzlies.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He only took two threes, and
he got to the line for six free throws.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>That’s what Dion needs to do every game.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>If he does this against other teams that don’t have amazing
bigs, he’ll definitely score a few more points than 16.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">-Alonzo Gee made a big fuck
up at the end of the first half on the fast break getting a charge and not
passing for an easy dunk or layup.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">-Tristan Thompson is
continuing to improve on the offensive end.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He is going up quicker and not being blocked as much.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I can’t wait until he figures out a
little running power step hook shot.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>That will help him to just drive in
when he’s close.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Now, players just
play off of him even around the hoop, since he moves his shot set up slow enough
they can run out to defend him.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">The Fuck Truck Driver of the
night is obviously Varejao.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He had
22 rebounds.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Eight of them led to
definitive second possessions.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>How
many tips out to other players for offensive boards did he have?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>How many disruptions after a Cav's offensive shot attempt did he have to slow down the Grizzlies's ability to fastbreak?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Varejao also had some nice passes to
set up our big men with dunks and easy shots.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Times;">Varejao is also giving a
whole hustle mentality to the team.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span>Everyone has started trying on defense and just going after the ball
when it’s released on offense.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We
are turning into an annoying team to play against.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It’s like a team of Varejaos without Kyrie Irving being on
the floor; it’s all hustle, no talent.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">
</span></span></div>

I’m going to offer up a bet.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Cavs are going to cover the 11 ½ point spread.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>We covered with Miami, and their best
players weren’t even being covered by our best defenders.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In Memphis, Gay will be covered by Alonzo Gee,
while the paint is going to be dealt with by a very capable Anderson Varejao
and his pet, Tristan Thompson.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I
don’t think we will win outright, but it should be very close.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The Cavs advantage lies in the fact
that Memphis shouldn’t be getting a ton of second offensive possessions when Varejao is on
the floor.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Hopefully, we can limit
the turnovers too, so Memphis really works to score and tires out their starters.</div>
