I’ve been working overnights
at work lately. Yes, my schedule
is totally wrecked and even more so than it normally would be because I have
four overnight shifts and one regular one. However, the overnights still have their advantages. I’m able to blast music and listen to
full albums, since no one else is there to interrupt me.
I’ve been listening to a lot
of rap: Eminem, Wu-Tang, Young Dro, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Quik and lots of
others. Besides wandering why
pussy, cash, and guns are such popular topics when the rapper is presumably in
the studio making his raps rather than doing the before mentioned things, I
wander if there is a certain portion of the population that likes all of the
skit tracks on rap albums.
It seems every rap release
has a decent amount of tracks where the rapper is performing seemingly
pointless conversations, confrontations, phone calls, or other forms of noise
that are not rapping. The phone
call seems to be a very popular skit.
This usually consists of the rapper talking on the phone with someone
and having a confrontation. They
aren’t funny either, at least to me.
My real question is: Does anyone like these tracks? Do other people find Kanye’s skits much
more listenable than other rappers’ skits? And, is this a cultural thing where being from the suburbs
and having a college background make me not get it?

Those are the "bathroom break" tracks. I don't know anyone who listens to those.
