"The best defense is no defense. They get paranoid and mess up." |
This lose to the Pacers was
not only expected but well earned.
The team did everything to live up to their reputation tonight.
The first quarter was a
great quarter for the Cavs. CJ
Miles started out hot. He sank two
threes in a row and actually had 16 of our 18 points at the 4:30 mark in the
first. Anderson Varejao wasn’t
scoring his garbage buckets how he normally does, but he had a few assists to
compliment Kyrie Irving’s. We led
in this quarter because we played defense and had no turnovers. We made the most of any turnovers we
pulled in. The one troubling
aspect was the quick transition fast breaks off of defnsive rebounds; Lance
Stephenson got back before Kyrie three times for easy layups that were
impossible to stop. Kyrie needs to
learn to run back to the three line rifght after his shot is up towards the hoop.
The second quarter the Cavs
looked good again. However, it
became apparent that CJ Miles is a black hole now, since he scored 28 points
against the Lakers. Any time he
touched the ball he shot it. It
wasn’t all bad though because he was making his threes and takes. We managed to keep the Pacers from
scoring for a three minute period, which helped us to boost are lead to 54-38. The defense was perfect during this
time. The Pacer’s had one possession
where the Cavs were able to get two blocks and an offensive shove call. The Cavs gave some of the lead away the
last three minutes of the half by doing their typical foul a ton then turn the
ball over so the other team can not look as bad routine.
The third quarter was continuing
the end trend from the second. We
turned the ball over and then if they didn’t get easy points in transition we
just fouled, so they could go to the line. We thought they were the type of players that choked if they
had an easy shot. In other news
found out today, Byron Scott is also still a high school coach considering his
believe in this system of playing psyche out.
The fourth quarter was a
quarter of attrition for me.
Everyone on the floor sucked.
No one could make a shot, and the defense wasn’t particularly
amazing. The Pacers didn’t score
for a five minute stretch while the Cavs didn’t score for two and half minutes of that stretch. Both teams missed shots and turned the
ball over; the Cavs even airballed two shots. After the Pacers drought, the Pacers started to make their shots
and the Cavs started up a drought that lasted till the game ended.
It was epic to see such a
turn around from a team after a half.
The Cavs were obviously not playing in the first half. It was too perfect. They were doppelgangers for sure.
I have a few gripes in
general:
-Byron Scott needs to set a
rotation and stick to it. Why didn’t
Jeremy Pargo get playing time?
Same with Kevin Jones. Why
is Luke Walton taking time away from anyone. He had one bad game. He played several great ones as a
starter, so they should give him a few to adjust to being a back up again.
-I hate how CJ Miles turned
into a vortex when passed to. He has almost too high of a confidence now
considering he took a shot every time he was passed to.
-Alonzo Gee and Anderson
Varejao just looked tired. Their
guys were going sideways past them.
-Tyler Zeller just couldn’t
stay with Roy Hibbert and kept fouling.
He needs to learn how to get away with fouling at some point.
-Alonzo Gee sucked. He shot a 1 point game. His defense was off tonight too. I hope he was just tired.
-CJ Miles is replacing Dion
Waiters as resident shot jack or upper.
It also looks like this could be the start of the Dion Waiters led bench
that I called for early on this year.
The Fuck Truck Driver of the
night was CJ Miles. He’s a mad
man. His first quarter 16 points
helped get us off to a great start.
He pushed for lay-ups and made his threes. If CJ stays like this, he will turn out to be a great
contract pickup and the Cavs might win some more games. Our bench is getting better either way with
Zeller being intelligent and Miles scoring finally. That’s for sure.
