Carr Says: “Dance On Them, Dup, Dup, Dup”

Long ago, Austin Carr Kept his powers hidden in his hair.  Now, they are in his pinky ring.

Ah yes, finally, we play a home game again, so league pass gets Austin Carr back as announcer.  Let me start by saying. Mr. Carr makes the Cavs games better.  His phrases, his passions, his power ring on his pinky, make him translate the bi polar action of the Cavs game to all fans.  He captures the extreme emotions:  the “ah motherrrr fuck…. (yea)” of everybody.  He knows the misery of Tristan Thompson gathering super slow and getting blocked and the joy of him gathering slightly less slower then being able to slam the hammer down.  Alas, I missed having him on league pass when we played the Timberwolves.  I know he was going apeshit on the five dunks Alonzo Gee made against them.  That would have made the loss a little more friendly.  He made this Detroit loss more friendly.

First Quarter

This is the best first quarter we have played in a little bit.  The Cavs were using their second possessions.  We had 7 second chance points.  It also helped that Anderson Varejao was making his twenty footer along with Tyler Zeller, which helped to open up the inside by drawing Detroit’s bigs out.  This allowed our guards to penetrate and create enough chaos to get assists for easy baskets.  There were six assisted baskets for us this quarter.

Tyler Zeller looked amazing this whole quarter.  He was stepping in front of driving guards to alter their shots, while staying with his own shots on the offensive end for easy points.  He just looks smart when he’s playing on offense.  He can bring down an offensive board and pump fake three times then lay it in.  He doesn’t panic like Tristan Thompson.  On defense, he is doing good at coming in to help when someone is funneled near him.  However, he seems scared to really body up against the centers.  This will change as he puts on a bigger body.

Second Quarter

Zeller kept doing dirty work getting some blocks and tips then running back down the floor to help on offense.  He also knows where to get to when he is on offense.  He floats where he can shoot.  Thompson should follow this.  I don’t get why he feels the need to float around the 18 foot area when he can’t shoot at all there.  He should only be there if he is setting a pick because his passing isn’t great.

CJ Miles realized he can’t shoot that great any more, so he drove the ball in and had success.  He got two And 1s in a row.  T.T also had some ok post moves.  He tried to pump fake before going up at least this game, and at one point he had a little six foot running hook.

We would have gone into the half with a decent lead, but we started fouling a lot.  Detroit got 7 free throws in two minutes.  The Cavs have to play less hard when it’s the end of a quarter.  It’s to easy for teams to come back like that from free throws.

Third Quarter

This was a hard quarter to watch.  We seemed destined for greatness when Alonzo Gee smashed the hammer on Kyle Singler’s face after he got the ball during a baseline second possession.  This quarter was destroyed how most Cav’s quarters are.  We couldn’t score for an extended period of time and turned the ball over.  We didn’t have a basket from 6:28 to 3:46.  We turned it over a few times and they scored off of all of the chances, while we didn’t score of turnovers or second possessions.

Fourth Quarter

It started out great.  CJ Miles drove the ball hard on the first possession we had to grab 2 free throws.  Then it all went down hill.  CJ got a charge called on himself and had two other turnovers in the span of three minutes.  Jeremy Pargo kept scoring nice drives and had help from Varejao, Miles (although his points were negated by his turnovers), and Thompson, but Detroit was nailing their threes.  The Cavs had the problem of stupid fouls and turnovers, so that didn’t help our cause either.  Detroit didn’t really commit too many dumb fouls when they had their scoring drought during the quarter.  That allowed them to keep their lead.  Jeremy Pargo played well during the fourth scoring nine, but that was nothing compared to 5 Detroit threes.

*4th quarter, 6:05, Charlie Villanueva made a 27 foot three.  That’s how the quarter went for us.  Everything that could happen bad did happen.  Fouls, turnovers, and made ridulous shots.

**I really like Kyle Singler’s game.  He’s lucky to have been drafted by Detroit because his body type and size is so similar to Tayshaun Prince.  Watching him, I see a lot of Tayshaun’s skills rubbing off.  He does the spin move into his man to create the space for a shot like Tayshaun does.   He utizliezes his length to finish well also by just standing straight up.

The Fuck Truck Driver award goes to CJ Miles for his second quarter performance.   This is his turnaround I hope. That’s why he gets it. He drove the ball really hard to get some guaranteed points.  I like seeing him try to get fouled, and it was awesome to see him get an offensive board and dunk.  That showed he was hustling.  If CJ Miles can continue to score like he did tonight by driving the ball and taking less jump shots, he is going to be a great addition to the bench.  By driving the ball, he can become more consistent in scoring.  The easy baskets might even help him get his shooting back on track.  Who knows?  If he and Pargo can continue to score how they did tonight when the team is healthy, we are going to be a serious threat to teams.
